I found a slew of pictures yesterday & before I upload them all to my drive, I want to post this picture. Does anyone else remember this tower being there before they tore it down on July 3rd, 2000? It's the old Gettysburg National Tower. I'll post a few more soon with a few from Antietam since we visited Sharpsburg & Gettysburg that summer.

Oh yes it was an eyesore that everyone seemed to hate. But here's the rub, it made money with the tourists. Personally I never went. My first time there was the weekend of the 125th. It was a little crazy.
I read today while looking the tower's name up about how there were folks that were debating over keeping it or taking it down. Personally, I enjoyed it when I was 14. & I love the new museum & what they were able to do by moving the Cyclorama, but I love that old building where the Cyclorama used to be. The National Tower kind of reminded me of the Space Needle.
Speaking of Gettysburg, lol, I really want to stay at the new place, "The Lodges of Gettysburg" But a trip there just ain't the same without staying at the Quality Inn right on Cemetery Hill. The Colton or Three Crown Budget ain't bad. Been to the Econo a few times & it is fine for the $ but the commute to the field is hectic. If I can walk right out the door onto the field, I get in a lot of steps. I've got the itch & if I can get both shots by May or June, I'm definitely going to head North up 81 to Adams County. If for nothing else, I need new photos!
We normally stay at the Quality Inn, it is dog friendly and on the battlefield although we have looked at a B&B also on the battlefield. They will have to wait until after COVID.
